The mirror is a battle of card advantage and threat density, where Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student and Kaito, Bane of Nightmares are the highest-impact permanents to protect or answer. Daze loses significant value in a symmetric land-heavy game where both players are incentivized to keep mana up, making it the cleanest cut. Force of Negation comes in to protect your key planeswalkers and counter opposing ones without tapping out, while Surgical Extraction can punish Brainstorm shuffles or remove a Murktide Regent or Nethergoyf from the game entirely after a Fatal Push. Sheoldred's Edict provides a clean answer to Tamiyo that can't be countered by Force of Will when you're hellbent, or to a resolved Kaito. The game plan is to out-grind your opponent through planeswalker advantage while using Thoughtseize to strip their best threat or disruption on the critical turn.
Oops! All Spells is a pure combo deck that wins on turn 1-2 by milling itself with Balustrade Spy or Undercity Informer and reanimating Thassa's Oracle via Dread Return, backed by Pact of Negation and Thoughtseize to protect the combo. Your primary disruption is Thoughtseize and Force of Will — hit the key combo pieces (Spy, Informer, or Dread Return) and then follow up with Surgical Extraction to exile the graveyard threat entirely. Daze is nearly useless here since the opponent routinely goes off with mana rituals making their spell costs effectively zero, so we cut it entirely. Fatal Push and Orcish Bowmasters are blank but stay in because they represent free pitch cards for Force of Will, and boarding too many blanks out leaves you too light on interaction. Kaito and Murktide are slow but similarly serve as Force of Will fodder, and your hand disruption via Thoughtseize gives you a real shot at dismantling their one-turn window.
Sneak and Show is a pure combo deck that wins by cheating Emrakul, the Aeons Torn or Atraxa, Grand Unifier into play via Sneak Attack or Show and Tell, so removal like Fatal Push and Snuff Out is nearly dead and should be cut. Post-board, prioritize protecting your Force of Will with Force of Negation as additional free countermagic, and bring in Consign to Memory to exile their key enchantments or answer their own Consign to Memory. Surgical Extraction punishes a countered or discarded Show and Tell, Sneak Attack, or Omniscience by stripping all copies, dramatically reducing their ability to recover. Your Thoughtseize and Daze are critical here — Thoughtseize on the play lets you see their hand and pick apart their combo pieces, while Daze taxes their Lotus Petal-fueled turns. Keep Orcish Bowmasters in because it punishes their Brainstorm and Ponder and can provide surprise blockers against Sneak Attack creatures, but accept that the matchup largely comes down to your disruption density.
