Missing sideboard cards? The full 15-card sideboard runs about $41.89.
Buy sideboard on ManapoolThis is a grindy spell-slinging mirror-adjacent matchup where card advantage and countermagic matter more than our aggressive creatures, since Sunderflock bounces our board, Eddymurk Crab taps down our creatures, and Hearth Elemental blocks well. Spell Pierce protects our key threats and spells from Stubborn Denial and Get Out while punishing their tempo plays. Ral, Crackling Wit generates incremental card advantage and bodies that out-grind their card selection package. Screaming Nemesis is weaker here since they have few profitable attacks into it and Sunderflock/Eddymurk are big bodies it doesn't trade with well; Boomerang Basics is less valuable since they don't have many single key permanents worth bouncing.
Golgari Midrange brings big bodies like Sheoldred, the Apocalypse and Graveyard Trespasser that our small burn spells can't always answer, so Scorching Shot's 5 damage is needed to kill Sheoldred or Sentinel of the Nameless City cleanly. Soul-Guide Lantern and Ghost Vacuum help against their graveyard synergies (Graveyard Trespasser exile triggers, flashback-adjacent value) and can proactively exile their graveyard resources. Card selection spells like Flow State and some copies of Sleight of Hand are cut since they don't address the opposing threats or the discard-heavy start from Thoughtseize that can take our best spells. Keep the core burn and prowess package intact since we still need to race before their removal and discard take over.
Nykthos Ramp wants to resolve big threats like Cavalier of Thorns and hit with Storm the Festival, but Spell Pierce only counters noncreature spells. Their mana dorks and big creatures (Cavalier of Thorns, Old-Growth Troll, Outcaster Trailblazer) are all creature spells and can't be targeted. Spell Pierce is therefore a narrow, situational tool here: its real targets are Storm the Festival and Kiora, Behemoth Beckoner, and it works best when they've tapped low to cast them and can't pay the extra {2}. Scorching Shot answers their sturdier threats like Old-Growth Troll (4/4) that our Burst Lightning can't kill alone. It won't kill a 5/6 Cavalier of Thorns, so don't count on it for that. We need to be the aggressor and close the game before they hit critical mass, so cutting slower card selection and bounce for cheap disruption and bigger removal is correct. Boomerang Basics is weak because bouncing a single mana creature doesn't meaningfully slow their mana development.
