The Epic Storm needs to chain many cheap noncreature spells (Dark Ritual, Lotus Petal, Brainstorm, Gamble, Burning Wish) in a single turn to assemble Doomsday or a storm kill, so Deafening Silence single-handedly shuts down their combo turn by limiting them to one noncreature spell per turn. Surgical Extraction can proactively strip a key combo piece such as Tendrils of Agony or Doomsday once revealed via Thoughtseize. Thoughtseize remains a premium disruption tool to see their hand and strip the key combo enabler before they go off. Trim slower value cards since this matchup is decided entirely by disrupting their combo turn, not grinding card advantage.
