Izzet Affinity leans on graveyard recursion and on cheap artifacts with activated abilities, such as Mox Opal. Goblin Welder, Goblin Engineer and Emry, Lurker of the Loch are creatures, so artifact hate does not shut them off directly. Tormod's Crypt disrupts Emry's mill-and-recast plan and the artifact recursion from Goblin Welder and Goblin Engineer. Liquimetal Coating can turn one of their key nonartifact permanents, such as a Goblin Welder or Emry, into an artifact, which means Karn's static ability then stops its activated abilities. Eldrazi Confluence is clunky against their fast low-curve plan, so we cut both copies for these two cards.
