Lands doesn't interact with our graveyard plan much beyond incidental Grafdigger's Cage and instead grinds through Sphere of Resistance and Wasteland to lock us out of casting spells, so Witherbloom Apprentice is valuable as a cheap, resilient threat that can also eat a Dark Depths or Marit Lage token in combat if needed. Surgical Extraction answers Grafdigger's Cage lock by removing our own discarded threat isn't relevant, but more importantly it can exile a card we discard to deny their Crop Rotation/Thespian's Stage combo pieces indirectly by disrupting our own graveyard less — mainly board it in as a hedge against Cage neutralizing our reanimation entirely, since with Cage out we pivot to Witherbloom Apprentice and Cabal Therapy beatdown. Unmask loses value since Lands rarely holds up interaction worth blowing out, and we're less worried about countermagic than about Sphere of Resistance taxing our rituals. Play around Wasteland by sequencing Lotus Petal and Dark Ritual before committing basics, and be aware Grafdigger's Cage shuts off Reanimate/Animate Dead/Shallow Grave entirely — Thoughtseize and Cabal Therapy should prioritize stripping it pre-emptively.
