Null Rod is one of the best cards in the deck against this opponent, shutting off Lotus Petal, Grim Monolith, Giant's Boulder, Expedition Map, and The One Ring, and generally crippling their fast-mana artifact shell. Note that Urza's Saga is an Enchantment Land rather than an artifact, so Null Rod does not stop its mana or Construct-making abilities. Deafening Silence limits them to one noncreature spell per turn, badly slowing a deck that wants to chain Lotus Petal, Grim Monolith, and Kozilek's Command together in a single turn. Goblin Bombardment, Sand Scout, and Hexing Squelcher are irrelevant against a deck with few early blockers and no meaningful creature pressure, so they're cut. Race them with the Ocelot Pride/Ajani engine while Null Rod and Deafening Silence buy the time needed to close the game.
