Death and Taxes fields a wide army of small creatures (Stoneforge Mystic, Thalia, Recruiter of the Guard, Skyclave Apparition) that Fiery Confluence's 1-damage-to-each-creature mode (chosen multiple times for up to 3 total) can wipe out cheaply, while the burn-to-face mode helps close games against their grindy plan. Sundering Eruption is weaker here since their manabase is fetchland-heavy but resilient with basics to fetch, so we prioritize the sweeper effect instead. Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon are exceptional against their many nonbasic lands (Karakas, Scrubland, Shadowy Backstreet) while barely affecting our own Mountain-based manabase, often stranding their black mana entirely. Chalice of the Void set to 1 punishes their one-mana suite like Swords to Plowshares, Thoughtseize, and Aether Vial.
