Abrade can destroy key pieces of their artifact engine such as Urza's Saga, Mox Opal, or Sewer-veillance Cam, slowing their combo development. Spell Pierce is a weaker fit against a deck full of cheap 0- and 1-mana artifacts that dodge the tax easily, so trimming it along with Prismari Charm and Preordain for more targeted disruption is the better plan.
