Gruul Basking Broodscale Combo relies on Ancient Stirrings, Malevolent Rumble, and Urza's Saga-style value into Emrakul, the Promised End, whose cast cost reduction depends on card types in the graveyard. Break the Ice is excellent here since the opponent relies heavily on lands that produce colorless mana, such as Eldrazi Temple, Ugin's Labyrinth, and Urza's Saga, allowing us to disrupt their mana development and key nonbasic lands. We cut Rite of Consumption since sacrificing our own creatures for damage is not the priority against a combo/ramp deck we want to out-grind or disrupt, and Serum Powder gives way to Break the Ice as land destruction is more impactful than a mulligan tool here.
