Esper Control runs a heavy nonbasic manabase (Celestial Colonnade, Meticulous Archive, multiple fetches) that Magus of the Moon punishes severely while our Forest-heavy base stays mostly unaffected, also shutting off their Celestial Colonnade win condition entirely. Unholy Heat is efficient removal for Narset, Parter of Veils and any early Solitude-enabled blocker, keeping pressure on through their control shell. Kozilek's Return and Vexing Bauble are far too passive against a deck full of Wraths and countermagic that wants to go long, so we prioritize proactive, resilient threats and mana denial instead.
