This BR deck shares the same graveyard-synergy shell as Rakdos Delirium (Stitcher's Supplier, Nethergoyf, Detective's Phoenix, Dark Matter Manipulator), so Surgical Extraction is excellent at removing a key Nethergoyf or combo piece from both hand and graveyard permanently. Dreams of Steel and Oil lets us strip a problematic creature like Dark Matter Manipulator or Nethergoyf directly from their hand while also exiling a copy from their graveyard. Pithing Needle lacks a strong activated-ability target against this mostly ETB/static value list, and Shadowspear's lifelink/trample upside matters less in a grindy removal-heavy matchup where card advantage is more valuable.
