Esper Control leans on countermagic (Counterspell, Spell Snare) and sweepers (Wrath of the Skies, Supreme Verdict), so Thoughtseize lets us proactively strip a counterspell or sweeper before committing our combo pieces. Vexing Bauble shuts down their evoked Solitude, which is one of their few free interaction pieces and a real blowout against our low curve. Burning Inquiry is bad against a deck that wants to see and counter our best spells, and Golgari Thug's small body does nothing against a deck with few early creatures to trade with. Play around Spell Snare and Narset, Parter of Veils by not overcommitting into open blue mana and sequencing extra draws carefully.
