Ruby Storm is a pure combo deck looking to chain rituals into a Grapeshot or Past in Flames kill, so Thoughtseize is critical to strip their key payoff spell or a ritual before they can go off, and it also reveals their hand so we know how much time we have. Surgical Extraction can remove a copy of Past in Flames or Grapeshot from their deck/graveyard once one resolves or gets discarded, denying redundancy in a deck that relies on specific payoffs. Otherworldly Gaze's surveil is too slow and defensively irrelevant against a combo deck we need to race or disrupt, so it comes out, along with Golgari Thug which does nothing proactive against a deck with no real board presence to trade with.
