Dimir Control is full of blue cards like Counterspell, Brainstorm, and Lorien Revealed, so Red Elemental Blast is excellent, both countering their key spells and picking off blue creatures like Spellstutter Sprite or Faerie Seer. Vandalblast can be cast for its normal cost to destroy a problem artifact if needed, though their artifact count is low. Soul-Guide Lantern mostly fights Gurmag Angler's delve and Sneaky Snacker's graveyard return, which matter less here since this list only has one Gurmag Angler and one Sneaky Snacker, so one copy is cut for impactful blue hate. Pursue the Past is cut since its card filtering is too slow against a deck full of counterspells and efficient removal like Snuff Out.
