Caw-Gates is a lifegain-heavy midrange deck whose primary disruption tools against you are Journey to Nowhere (exiling your combo creature) and Prismatic Strands (preventing all damage from white or red sources mid-combo). Flaring Pain is essential to bring in — cast it the turn you go off to make your damage unpreventable through their Strands. Bring in extra Loran's Escape to protect Tireless Tribe or Sneaky Snacker from Journey to Nowhere on the combo turn, and Thraben Charm to answer Journey to Nowhere or Armadillo Cloak on Guardian of the Guildpact before they bury you in life. Lightning Bolt is significantly weakened here — Guardian of the Guildpact is untargetable by non-multicolored spells and Outlaw Medic recouped damage with life gain — so trim most of your bolts alongside Abandon Attachments and Sandstorm Eidolon, which are too slow compared to your protection suite. The extra Prismatic Strands give you fog insurance to survive their attacks on the critical turn if you need one more turn to assemble the combo.
