Gruul Ponza wants to ramp with Arbor Elf and Utopia Sprawl into land destruction like Mwonvuli Acid-Moss and Thermokarst, then land big threats like Annoyed Altisaur and Bramble Wurm-adjacent Writhing Chrysalis. Envelop counters their key sorceries, including Mwonvuli Acid-Moss, Thermokarst, and Malevolent Rumble, disrupting their land destruction and card selection before it resolves. Dispel protects our own Counterspells from Ram Through or other instant-speed disruption while we try to counter their ramp and land destruction plan. Harrier Strix and Snaremaster Sprite are too small to meaningfully impact their big creatures once they land, so we bring in more proactive countermagic aimed at stopping the ramp before it happens.
