Dimir Self-Bounce is the exact same shell as our deck's core engine cards but leans into bounce and disruption with Thoughtseize, Nowhere to Run, and Narset, Parter of Veils, so protecting our threats with counterspells matters a lot. Spell Pierce and It'll Quench Ya! stop their key noncreature disruption spells and bounce effects on the cheap, while Ashiok, Dream Render shuts down Narset's card selection restriction being relevant and can exile their small graveyard-based value. Torch the Tower and Voldaren Thrillseeker are weak since they have few early creatures worth killing, so those come out for interaction that protects our own engine pieces.
