This matchup is a grind war decided by discard, board presence, and attrition. Engineered Plague is at its best here—naming Specter fully neutralizes Hypnotic Specter, while naming Zombie neuters Withered Wretch and Graveborn Muse; resolving even one Plague often swings the game on its own. Ravenous Baloth comes in as a high-impact threat that dodges Smother, forces awkward chump blocks against their 2/2s and Mishra's Factories, and gains life to cushion aggressive Dark Ritual openings. Naturalize handles Dystopia and Gloom off their sideboard, both of which punish our green permanents and can lock up the game if unanswered. Phyrexian Furnace has no meaningful targets in their maindeck, Nantuko Vigilante similarly lacks artifacts or enchantments to destroy, and Genesis is trimmed because Withered Wretch will routinely exile our graveyard and cut off the recursion engine.
