Gro-a-tog's only real threat is Psychatog, so Engineered Plague chosen as Atog reduces it to a 0/1 creature, shrinking its base stats. Haunting Echoes is a powerful blowout against a deck that relies on Accumulated Knowledge and graveyard fuel for Psychatog's pump ability, stripping both their library's matching copies and their graveyard resource simultaneously. Phyrexian Furnace and Funeral Charm are weaker one-off effects that get replaced by these higher-impact cards. Duress remains excellent at stripping Counterspell or Foil before we commit our own threats.
