Essence Flare can help wear down a resilient threat like Ravenous Baloth or Krosan Tusker over several turns by putting a -0/-1 counter on it each upkeep, buying time against this grindy midrange deck. It also gives the creature +2/+0 in the meantime, so use it carefully. This opponent has no red cards, so Blue Elemental Blast and Hydroblast stay in the board. Annul does have real targets in Pernicious Deed (and Engineered Plague or Tormod's Crypt after sideboarding), but this plan keeps those slots for Essence Flare. Your core Dreadnought plan is well-positioned here since The Rock has little fast interaction against a turn-one 12/12 (kept alive by Stifling the sacrifice trigger). Pernicious Deed can answer it later, since Dreadnought has mana value 1 and only needs X=1, so try to close the game quickly once it resolves. Keep your counterspell suite intact to protect against Smother, Chainer's Edict, and Cabal Therapy stripping your combo pieces.
