Dimir Midrange is grindy with countermagic (Spell Snare, We Say Thee Nay!) and removal like Requiting Hex and Bitter Triumph, so Duress can strip key noncreature pieces like Kaito, Bane of Nightmares or a counterspell or removal spell before they matter. It can't take their creatures, including Enduring Curiosity, since Duress only hits noncreature, nonland cards. Gideon the Oathless adds a resilient 3/3 body that punishes them for deploying creatures and sits outside the Requiting Hex range (mana value 2 or less). Samut comes out since haste is less relevant in this grindier matchup, and Stinging Vitriol's 2 damage does little here, so those slots go to cheaper, more targeted interaction and a stickier threat. Keep the core burn and Lizard synergy package intact to keep pressuring Kaito and their card advantage engines before they take over.
