Izzet Affinity is an artifact-combo-aggro deck that wants to chain cheap artifacts into Mox Opal, Urza's Saga, and big threats like Kappa Cannoneer, so limiting their spell count and killing their key creatures matters most. Deafening Silence is strong here since Affinity casts many cheap noncreature artifact spells each turn (Lotus Petal, Mox Opal, Mishra's Bauble and the like), and only one per turn can be cast. It also limits our own noncreature spells, so sequence carefully. Erode gives us clean instant-speed removal for Pinnacle Emissary and their utility creatures like Goblin Welder, Goblin Engineer, and Emry, though it lets them fetch a basic land. Kappa Cannoneer has Ward {4}, so Erode on it is countered unless we pay an extra {4}, which makes it a poor answer to the Cannoneer. We trim Flagstones of Trokair copies since our Wasteland and Ghost Quarter already apply enough pressure to their nonbasic-heavy manabase (Urza's Saga, Seat of the Synod) and we need slots for interaction; Flickerwisp is also cut as a lower-impact body against their go-wide artifact swarm. Note Disruptor Flute remains excellent here: naming a key source like Urza's Saga or Emry, Lurker of the Loch stops its non-mana activated abilities (Saga's Construct-making ability, Emry's recast ability), though Saga's mana ability still works.
