Bant Control is entirely blue-based on the disruption side, so Pyroblast is a premium answer to Force of Will, Brainstorm-fueled plays, Ponder, and their own countermagic like Spell Pierce and Force of Negation. Surgical Extraction can strip a copy of Up the Beanstalk or a threat from their yard, while Force of Negation lets us fight through their counter-heavy shell for free on their turn. We cut Unholy Heat since it's mostly dead against their small creature suite of Tamiyo, Inquisitive Student and Phelia, Exuberant Shepherd where Lightning Bolt already covers the job, along with trimming card selection for more impactful interaction. This matchup is a battle of counterspells and threat density, so protecting our clock with free countermagic is paramount.
