Maverick is a creature-based green-white deck with Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis as a graveyard-dependent threat, so Surgical Extraction can strip key pieces like Stitcher's Supplier or disrupt their delve/convoke plan for Hogaak by removing graveyard cards. Our extra Unholy Heat can deal a lethal 6 damage with Delirium to answer bigger threats like Wight of the Reliquary once it has grown. Spell Pierce is weak since Maverick's threats are almost entirely creature spells which Spell Pierce cannot target. Lightning Bolt and our own Dragon's Rage Channeler remain key since this matchup is a race against their disruptive Thoughtseize and Wasteland-based mana denial plan.
