Mystic Forge Combo ramps hard off Ancient Tomb, Urza's Tower/Workshop, and Grim Monolith to deploy The One Ring, Karn, and eventually Mystic Forge or Paradox Engine turns; Damping Sphere caps their big mana lands at one colorless mana each and taxes their multi-spell turns, directly attacking their ramp-based game plan. Dismember can't touch Karn, the Great Creator, since he is a planeswalker, but it is a cheap answer to an artifact Karn animates with his +1 or to an Urza's Saga Construct token, though its main value is flexibility since they run few creatures; we include it mainly as efficient, cheap interaction we can hold up while assembling our own combo. We trim the redundant Disruptor Flute copies and narrow one-ofs (Expedition Map, Icetill Explorer, Pithing Needle) since this matchup is decided more by mana disruption and racing than by narrow utility effects. Our maindeck Wasteland and Ghost Quarter are already excellent against their nonbasic-heavy manabase, so the sideboard plan focuses on reinforcing that angle.
