Survival Elves' Survival of the Fittest engine and mana-dork acceleration into Deranged Hermit or Armageddon means you want proactive, resilient threats rather than reactive counterspells that get outgrinded. Meddling Mage can lock out Survival of the Fittest, Armageddon, or Call of the Herd on the draw, disrupting their entire game plan, while Exalted Angel dodges Swords to Plowshares' downside for them and races well post-Armageddon since it can attack and gain life on an empty board. Mana Leak is weak here since their curve is full of cheap dorks (Birds of Paradise, Llanowar Elves) that make the tax irrelevant, and Prohibit whiffs on most of their real threats which cost 3 or more. Phyrexian Furnace has no target since this deck has no graveyard recursion plan worth attacking; keep Wrath of God and Swords to Plowshares to answer their mana creatures and Deranged Hermit tokens.
