The Rock grinds with Duress, Cabal Therapy, Pernicious Deed, and recursive threats like Genesis, so Haunting Echoes is a powerful answer that strips their graveyard-based recursion (Genesis, flashback Cabal Therapy) and any card they've committed to the yard. Phyrexian Arena helps us out-grind their card advantage engine over a long, attrition-heavy game. Phyrexian Furnace overlaps awkwardly with the more impactful Haunting Echoes and gets trimmed alongside Funeral Charm. Vindicate and Swords to Plowshares remain vital answers to Pernicious Deed and their large creatures like Ravenous Baloth before they can sweep our board.
