Gro-A-Tog runs a dense counterspell package with Counterspell, Circular Logic, Foil, and Annul, which can easily strip away your combo turn before it resolves. Xantid Swarm's attack trigger stops the opponent from casting any spell that turn, creating a safe window to chain Survival of the Fittest activations or activate Hermit Druid without getting countered. Elvish Spirit Guide and Treva's Ruins are the most replaceable mana pieces here since this matchup rewards patience over explosive starts against their counter-heavy, removal-light shell.
