Maverick leans on Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis, Wight of the Reliquary, and Sylvan Safekeeper, with Fatal Push and Snuff Out as removal. Dismember gives us efficient interaction against their small-to-midsize creatures like Wight of the Reliquary, Orcish Bowmasters, and Moonshadow, and it dodges their sorcery-speed disruption by being an instant played at a time of our choosing. Their game plan runs through the graveyard (Hogaak can be cast from there, and Wight and Moonshadow grow from cards in it), so Unlicensed Hearse is a good fit: it exiles cards from their graveyard and doesn't need to be crewed to do so. We leave Null Rod in the sideboard because their mainboard has no artifacts for it to hit, and it would shut off our own Lotus Petal. Chalice of the Void is the weaker card here since Maverick's low curve (Thoughtseize, Fatal Push, Once Upon a Time) means a poorly-set Chalice can catch our own Lotus Petal, Wastescape Battlemage, and It That Heralds the End just as easily as theirs. Sire of Seven Deaths is too slow against a deck with four Wasteland, since our nonbasic lands are exposed and getting to seven mana is difficult, so we favor cheaper interaction and pressure. Thought-Knot Seer stays in to take a nonland card like Hogaak, Fatal Push, or Snuff Out from their hand before it matters.
