Dismember gives us cheap, efficient removal for Guide of Souls, Ocelot Pride, and Thalia before they generate value, and it dodges mana issues by paying life instead of colored mana. We leave Null Rod in the sideboard. The opponent's main deck has no artifacts to shut off, and Lazotep Quarry is a land, so Null Rod doesn't affect it. It would also turn off our own Lotus Petal. Sire of Seven Deaths is too slow against a deck full of cheap creatures and token generation that can race before it matters, so we cut both copies to make room for Dismember. Glaring Fleshraker's 2/2 body is fragile against Swords to Plowshares and doesn't block the wide Cat token swarm effectively, so we trim one copy for more proactive removal.
