Jeskai Control wins by grinding with Jeskai Revelation, Stock Up, and Great Hall of the Biblioplex, so we prioritize countermagic and resilient threats over our slower card-advantage sorceries. Flashfreeze stops their Steam Vents/Blood Crypt-fueled red spells like Fire Magic and Firebending Lesson, Disdainful Stroke counters Jeskai Revelation and other big spells with mana value 4 or greater, and Negate covers Jeskai Revelation, Stock Up, and other noncreature spells (though not Inevitable Defeat, which can't be countered); the extra Duress backs up our discard plan against their removal and sweepers. Qarsi Revenant's flying, deathtouch, and lifelink make it a strong clock and blocker against their Monk tokens, and its renew ability keeps giving value from the graveyard if burn-based removal kills it. Overlord of the Balemurk's mill-and-recursion is too slow against a deck with sweepers like Deadly Cover-Up and Fire Magic plus spot removal like Inevitable Defeat, Spell Snare and Strategic Betrayal are narrow here since few of their key spells cost exactly 2 or rely on creatures, and Winternight Stories is cut to make room for more proactive interaction given the control mirror's grindy nature.
